How you can help
Your letter really can make a difference to the Awá of Brazil. Please write a brief and polite letter or fax (in Portuguese, English or your own language), including the following points:
- The Awá‘s land ownership rights must be recognised urgently. It is essential that all the 118,000 hectares as mapped by FUNAI (government Indian affairs department) are demarcated as the bare minimum.
- The Awá area must connect with the indigenous areas to the north and south (known as the Alto Turiacú and Carú indigenous areas).
- All those who have invaded and settled in the Awá area must be removed and suitable alternative land found for them.
