Al Jazeera: two reports on the Bushmen’s campaign
by Toby

Last Sunday, Al Jazeera’s Oliver Steeds reported on the Kalahari Bushmen’s campaign to return to their ancestral lands. Al Jazeera have now posted both parts of the video report online, and it’s well worth a watch:

Part 1:

Part 2:

The reports include interviews with Bushmen, a background to the campaign by the Bushmen organisation First People of the Kalahari, and an update following the court victory in December last year.

The First People of the Kalahari are a remarkable group of individuals, more power to them!

This is an astonishing, uplifting insight into the First People of the Kalahari’s plight, fight, and subsequent victory. As I’m ever the optimist, believing in the power of people, justice, and humanity, I hope all the bush people find are able to return to their ancestral home and further self determination; progression welcomed rather than enforced. I also hope the sale of Hoodia in the West does not lead to unsustainable growth thereby becoming an herbal diamond.

Must also say thanks to those from Survival int who empowered & enabled the bush people too, you guys are amazing!
