Sixty-five Nukak Indians have been displaced by armed conflict on their
land between right-wing paramilitary groups, left-wing guerrillas and
the Colombian army.

The Nukak are an isolated hunter-gatherer group; many of them died from
disease before their lands were protected following a Survival campaign
in 1997.

About ten percent of the Nukak reserve is occupied by armed groups.
Another ten percent is occupied by colonists displaced by the
fumigation of their coca crops in  Guaviare province. The
colonists are now growing coca on the Nukak's land. The nomadic Nukak
are experiencing severe disruption to their normal migration patterns.
