The office of the president of Botswana ordered Botswana Television in
December not to air a scheduled programme containing an interview with Bushman leader Roy Sesana.
Sesana, of Bushman organisation First People of the Kalahari (FPK) had
been interviewed about winning the Alternative Nobel Prize or Right
Livelihood Award. Sesana and FPK were given the award in the Swedish
Parliament for 'resolute resistance against eviction from their
ancestral lands, and for upholding the right to their traditional way
of life.'
Botswana's director of broadcasting services is reported to have told
the newspaper Mmegi that the documentary could not be aired because it
contained issues surrounding the relocation of [Bushmen].'
