During the latest session of the Bushmen court case, the government's
attorney stated, 'We will do what we think is best for them [the
Bushmen]'.
The Bushmen's lawyers have asked the court to speed up the trial, which
has already lasted more than a year, as they are running short of funds.
The government's attorney, Sidney Pilane, is also a special advisor to President Mogae.
In responding to the Bushmen's request, he stated, 'Money [for the
Bushmen] comes from individuals in Europe, none of it seems to come
from anyone local. That should tell him something about the attitudes
of people in this country and the ungrateful attitudes of his
applicants [the Bushmen].
'We do not need Europeans telling us what to do and what not to do.
They can give them all the money they wish but we really don't care,
and we resent their involvement in our affairs. We are concerned with
our own people, we will do what we think is best for them.'
