The Land Council was responsible for preparing land claims on behalf of the area's Aborigines: these extracts show how the Council worked with traditional custodians of an area to prepare a claim.

The Land Council consults traditional custodians who want to request an 'excision': a small area cut out of a pastoral lease (a non-Aboriginal cattle station now occupying Aboriginal land) where the Aborigines would be able to live legally. The excision would protect an important sacred site - the Devil-Devil dreaming.
