The first public debate between Survival and De Beers took place at
Bedales school in southern England. The school had invited both parties
to debate the motion 'Diamond prospecting in Botswana's Central
Kalahari Game Reserve is not the reason for the relocation of the Gana
and Gwi Bushmen.' Before the debate, 24 pupils sided with De Beers (in
supporting the motion) and 117 with Survival (in opposing it), with 40
'don't knows'. At the end of the hour-long debate, just 15 pupils still
believed De Beers, and 163 sided with Survival, with 6 abstentions.
Survival Director Stephen Corry gives the opening presentation on
behalf of Survival.
